LOL
its interesting read

- 1 of the reasons I can tell you actually "know" what you are talking about is because you know what/who GAMEPRESS(GP) is. If someone does not, then they are not rly in the industry

anyway
you do make some valid points

however i do not think that your stages applied to me (i am NOT saying that i was better than anyone else)

- the main thing i think with PR is that IT TAKES TIME, it will not happen overnight

i can safely say it takes months, if not years to get stuff (it took that long to get halo reach, gears of war 3)

---

normally "new" sites would do 1 thing first whenever they get/find a company email
they say

I WANT YOUR GAME, PLEASE SENT ME A COPY

after finding it GP

- this is TOTALLY wrong.....but the new ppl do not know that

-----

i did things differently

i started sending out tons of emails to companies (big and small) - i got the info from GP
asking to get onto their PR lists
once on their lists
i posted ALL OF THEIR STUFF
once i posted their stuff

i replied to their PR email saying

- thanks for the news, i have posted it (doing this over and over allowed me to get into the back of their heads "i have seen this site before, they always post our stuff" )

after months/years of doing this
that was when i was able to ask for game copies

- of course, at the start, they required your site traffic info

after you start getting stuff
you must write good reviews ect

once i post a review
i send them the link for them to check it out (to prove that i actually reviewed their product)

-------

now that i have built up a pretty good relationship with various PRs and companies
i do get a good amount of games (given that they have enough copies)

most of the time, i get what i ask for, games or interviews

- of course, i am not at the lvl of IGN or GT but i am in a very good position

i currently have 250+ interviews for Video Games - Movie / Series - Book / Comic / Graphic Novel - Companies - Specific Individual

Not being from the UK/London, I have no idea how bad GAME is or how good its competitors are but I do see the same problem in my own country. However, being a PC gamer (mostly a PC gamer, I do have a PS3) and a gaming site owner, I don't really have the need (or the time) to buy console games. This means that all the games I do buy are bought on steampowered which very often has amazing sales. The whole calling-me-dude-eventhough-you-don't-know-me thing happens to me quite often though and I hate it as well.

The more I think about this, I'm not sure if that's reaming or rimming, and I think a puffin has a cloaca not an anus. I'm going to stop thinking about this now.

To be fair to ITV, what they're actually doing is asking you to perform anilingus on a puffin.

I guess people just go with what they know. And the post-Christmas sales euphoria means that people buy stuff that's £1 cheaper than it was three days previous, but convince themselves that its an absolute bargain.

While I don't disagree with a word you've written here and infact, seem to find every high street experience a pretty galling afair these days I can't help noticing that GAME are, by your own admission the UK's largest chain of videogame specialist stores. how do they manage to maintain this position with such outright poor business acumen, is it down to lack of competition or simply that the public are ignorant? I myself visited Exeters store 2 days after christmas and couldn't move inside due to the number of customers despite the fact that there wasn't a single true bargain to be found, can someone please explain this mystery to me?

I too have my issues with that particular site you cite – Let's Cheer an 8/10 game, really? – and agree that there's no point writing a Kinect-only site if you're not going to be honest about how good the games are!
